The body of the domra, a round, deep, hemispherical, made of wood. Traditionally, birch, maple, walnut wood is used, but you can also find rosewood or beech domras. Cheap models can be equipped with a plastic case. For the formation of characteristic form, seven (sometimes nine) of curved staves (planks) are glued other or both ends. The case is closed with a flat top deck made of resonant spruce or cedar. As played on the domra with a pick upper deck needs protection. For this purpose, the shell, manufactured with wood of firm breeds. The neck of the domra is not very long, with an overlay of solid wood, with embedded metal frets.
The strings are attached to the lower part of the instrument body, to special buttons. The string is stretched through the cuts in the stand and attached to the bar, located on the head of the neck.
The structure of the three-string domra is quart, its tonal range is 2 octaves and 10 semitones. The four-stringed domra has a quintic structure, the range of sound is somewhat wider-3 octaves and 9 semitones.
