Vintage 21" Hungarian Painted Face Cloth Doll w Elaborate Costume Hungary 1960s

Description

Hungarian is a huge nearly 21" cloth doll with either a composition or a plastic molded head.  Her head suffers crack lines.  I am not sure what her head is actually made of, but its finish is bright and shiny.  She was probably manufactured in Hungary circa the 1950s-60s.  Hungarian's facial detailing is simply, but dramatically painted.  Her body is constructed from firmly stuffed cloth with an extremely long torso to which her shoulders and thighs have been wire jointed.  She wears elaborate provincial costuming complete with pompom headpiece, a fanciful black embroidered apron, lacy accents, and silver plastic (?) beads.  A pin inserted into the front of her blouse suggests that another piece of jewelry may be missing.  Not sure though--  Hungarian remains in bright condition though the backside upper portion of her costuming has more noticeably discolored
and become dusty.  Her puffed sleeves are also discolored with spotting to its left back sleeve.  The discoloration and spotting may have resulted from the "transfer" or oxidation of the paper used to "puff" her sleeves.  The tea colored stain on her petticoat may have been caused by perfume (?).  She smells lightly of perfume.  The left heel of her red cloth shoe has become UN-stitched exposing its stuffing.  Though she may need a bit of dusting, Hungarian remains a large, dramatic, and elaborately costumed ethnic doll.
